Press Release Concerning Application for a Certificate of Approval for Overland Transportation of Phase VI Returned Vitrified Waste

The above parties today filed an application with the Director General of the Science and Technology Agency for a certificate of approval for overland transportation of 88 canisters out of 192 canisters of Phase VI returned vitrified waste. The application for 104 canisters was filed on December 17, 1999. The application was filed in accordance with the Law for the Regulation of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors in order to obtain government approval of safety measures to be implemented during overland transport to the Vitrified Waste Storage Centre.
