Final Disposal of Specified Radioactive Waste Law Passed

The government today announced passage of the Final Disposal of Specified Radioactive Waste Law, which establishes a framework for final disposal of high-level radioactive waste. It is our belief that the establishment of such a framework is essential to Japan's nuclear fuel cycle program, and should be given the highest priority. The new law is a major step toward achievement of a final waste disposal solution, and as the operators of the Rokkasho Vitrified Waste Storage Center, we welcome its passage. In the future, we look forward to the establishment of an organization to administer high-level waste disposal facilities, and other steps toward the achievement of a final high-level radioactive waste disposal solution.
