Confirmation regarding Facility Design against Damage from Aircraft Collision

Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited (JNFL) designed the Rokkasho Vitrified Waste Storage Center to ensure that it would not be damaged even in the event of aircraft collision and is similarly designing the Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant to ensure it will be able to withstand aircraft collision. The safety designs are based on the F-16, the aircraft deployed at Misawa Air Base, while making sufficient extra allowances. The deployment of F-2s at the Misawa Air Base is currently being planned. The F-2 is an aircraft remodeled and developed based on the F-16. JNFL expects that the deployment of F-2s will not affect the safety of its facilities. To be completely certain, however, the company confirmed its projection based on disclosed information and reported to the Science and Technology Agency today.
