Investigation of Leakage Detection System in Spent Fuel Acceptance and Storage Facility

Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited

About two drops of water leakage per second has been detected since last July by the leakage detection system of the PWR fuel storage pool in our spent fuel acceptance and storage facility.
The pool's detection system has detected water presence every year since 1996. They have been regarded as dew condensation caused in a space between the pool lining and concrete wall rather than leakage of pool water because they stopped in about three or four months. This time, as water presence is still detected after five months have passed, we have decided to investigate the cause of water presence as described in the attached document.
The findings of investigation will be reported to the central government and the local governments concerned, and also publicly announced.
The water discharged from the leakage detection system has been properly treated by our liquid waste treatment facility, causing no concern about environmental impact.
