Introduction of Higher-Performance Equipment in Latter Half of Second Phase at the Uranium Enrichment Plant |
Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited |
In preparation for the introduction of higher-performance equipment in the latter half of the second phase (450 t SWU/a), part of the specifications for a component of the lower section of the centrifugal separators rotator have been revised to ensure the long-term reliability of this component. Having incorporated the altered rotator in the centrifugal separator, performance tests have been conducted using the group mouting The objective of introducing this higher-performance equipment is to achieve a higher separation performance than that of the metal centrifuge currently in use. The test results using the group mouting were very satisfactory, achieving the expected separation performance. In an additional long-term reliability test conducted in parallel with this test, the linear adhesion of uranium compounds and traces of corrosion were confirmed through observation of the same rotator component using an electronic microscope. In order to ensure stable long-term operation in the latter half of the second phase, JNFL will conduct a comprehensive long-term performance assessment and investigation based on the results of these tests. We will make an announcement regarding the future outlook based on the results of this assessment and investigation as soon as they are available. In addition to the steady development of higher-performance equipment, JNFL will strive to develop a world-class centrifuge using the Centrifuge Test Facility, which is currently under construction. |
